Tools & Such
Mini-course examples
Instructional design is more about thought processes than it is about specific tools. Personally, my preference is to build individual experiences out of classic Web technologies rather than proprietary authoring tools. But we do have a lot of authoring tools, and if you're looking at my portfolio you may want some proof that I know how to use them.
Articulate Storyline
There's Always a Bigger Phish — a short course in avoiding "phishing" or "spoofing" attempts online. This is a pretty basic demo of Storyline's slideshow-style presentation, with some animations, art and voiceovers from its AI features, and an interactive slide. I'm thinking I'll probably add a quiz later on.
V.E.R.T.Ex. Onboarding — Corporate training for new employees at an alternative energy company that is definitely not run by supervillains and mad scientists. It started out subtle, and somehow became ridiculous as time went on. Also includes one web object done in Claude Code; you'll probably know it when you see it.
Articulate Rise
ICYMI: Adulting 101 — I've read that college students and young adults are often unequipped with "basic life skills" that were second nature to previous generations, like banking or even knowing how to write a mailing address. I thought it would be interesting to put together eLearning for some "adulting" basics. Built as a single course for easy portfolio handling, but could easily be split into microlearning modules.
Rise + Mighty
Recognizing Signs of a Stroke — While visiting someone in the hospital, I frequently passed by a poster with the mnemonic "B.E. F.A.S.T." for recognizing the signs that someone is having a stroke, and for some reason it just wouldn't stick in my memory. So I made this course, and now I remember it. This also gave me a chance to try Mighty, Maestro Learning's add-on for Rise, including its new AI-assisted feature Mighty Studio. I "remixed" an existing Mighty Studio template to make the first part where each step is taught, and then created the acronym quiz template in the second part by myself (well, with Claude.)
Organizing, Focusing, and Removing Distractions at Work — My July 2026 design challenge entry includes three interactive components from Mighty Studio as well as some standard Mighty transitions. There's a brief writeup too.
Techsmith Camtasia
My legacy portfolio has some Camtasia videos. (The password's on my resume.)
