June 2026: Consumer Product Training
Coalridge: eLearning that doesn't feel like “learning”
For the eLearning Designer's Academy June 2026 Challenge the prompt was to build an experience for the fictional Coleridge brand of kettle-style charcoal grills, for customers new to grilling on coals. Since this would be as much a marketing tool as an educational one, I thought it was important to try and make it not feel like a “course”. The idea was also that learners would be led to the experience by a QR code, and coupling that with the outdoor nature of grilling meant a mobile-first design was in order.
I had fun using Claude Design for the May challenge, so I went with the same tool for this month. I took a little more hands-on of an approach than I did before, providing a more detailed PRD (product requirements document) for the LLM to work from, and micromanaging a bit on copy and design.
The minisite walks first-time grillers through the steps of safely using a chimney starter, distributing coals, venting, and cooking to a desired temperature. Interactive elements help retain attention and keep the whole thing fun.
